Meet the Matilda Sport and Recreation authors
Glenn Amezdroz
Glenn Amezdroz (MEd BEd DipPhysEd FACHPER) is a former Principal Education Officer (Physical Education) at the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority, and a member of the Expert Writing Team for the 2024 Sport and Recreation syllabus. He was also a member of the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority’s Health and Physical Education Advisory Committee, and is the immediate-past Vice President of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
Rowan Johnson
Rowan Johnson (BEd, Cert IV Fitness, Cert IV Training & Assessment) has over 12 years’ experience teaching Sport and Recreation in Queensland. He currently teaches at Mansfield State High School. Rowan was a member of the Expert Writing Team for the 2024 Sport and Recreation syllabus and for the integrated student supports validation in 2022.
Brad Weaver
Brad Weaver (BHum Mov Sci, Bed, Cert IV Fitness, Cert IV Training & Assessment) has over 15 years’ experience teaching Sport and Recreation in Queensland. He currently teaches at Emmaus College Rockhampton. Brad was a member of the Expert Writing Team for the 2024 Sport and Recreation syllabus.
Kirsten Veeren
Kirsten Veeren (Grad. Dip. Secondary Education, Bachelor of Applied Science/Bachelor of Games and Interactive Technology) is one of the Deans of Students at Browns Plains State High School. She has over five years’ experience teaching a range of Health and Physical Education subjects in Queensland. As a former professional football player and academy coach at Brisbane Roar Football Club, Kirsten has a wealth of real-world sporting experience and understanding. Kirsten is passionate about best practice and integrated learning that improves engagement for students.
Damien Tobin
Damien Tobin (BSc, GradDipEd, CertIV Fitness) is the Head of Department of Health and Physical Education, Sport and Specialist Programs (Sport) at MacGregor State High School. He has over six years’ experience teaching Sport and Recreation in Queensland. Damien has been a member of key focus groups during the revision process for the 2024 Sport and Recreation syllabus.
